It’s going to be a bit longer before skies clear in Kamloops and the Okanagan, says an Environment Canada meteorologist.
A smoky haze has crept across the Southern Interior the last few days and meteorologist Bobby Sekhon says that’s expected to remain until early next week.
“It’s tricky to know exactly when the hazy skies will dissipate, however, we are expecting it to stay until the early part of next week,” he says.
Sekhon says the biggest source of the smoke has been the wildfires burning in northern Alberta.
“The smoke has been creeping from north to south towards the Southern Interior,” he says. “The big ones near High Level have produced a lot of smoke, but there are several fires burning through B.C. and Alberta so it’s been a combination of them.”
As for air quality, Sekhon says there isn’t too much of a concern for the overall population.
“We are not seeing a whole lot of degradation when it comes to air quality surface which is good,” he says. “At worst we are getting to about moderate levels which aren’t too hazardous to the general public.”
However, anyone with pre-existing health conditions should consider reducing strenuous activities, he says.
“Overall there is not a great risk,” he says.
