KELOWNA - A newly installed smoke detector woke a resident to the smell of smoke early this morning, April 11, so everyone was able to escape a house fire in the Lakeview Heights area of West Kelowna.

West Kelowna Fire Rescue responded to the fire, made sure everyone was out and contained it to one room.

Three fire engines and a dozen firefighters from Westbank, Lakeview Heights and Rose Valley fire stations responded to the fire, according to a news release from fire chief Jason Brolund.

The cause of the fire was deemed accidental.
