SALMON ARM — Widespread reports of a loud noise and ground shaking in the Salmon Arm area appear to have been caused by a small earthquake.

Earthquakes Canada reports a 2.2 ML earthquake hit three to four kilometres northeast of Salmon Arm, and could be lightly felt throughout the area last night, March 2, at about 8:39 p.m.

"There are no reports of damage, and none would be expected," the website says.

Officials were investigating the situation last night but the Shuswap Emergency Program was not activated, according to the Facebook page.
