SLOW DOWN: Multiple accidents around Kamloops as ice and snow return

KAMLOOPS - The Kamloops RCMP are asking people to slow down and be extra careful while driving in these hazardous conditions.

Ice and snow have created treacherous conditions that have led to multiple car accidents, according to an RCMP release issued today, Dec. 19.

"Currently, members of Kamloops Rural RCMP are on scene at two separate motor vehicle accidents near Savona," says Kamloops RCMP Media Relations Officer Cpl. Jodi Shelkie. "Drivers should slow down, give extra distance between themselves and the vehicle in front of them and extra braking distance at intersections."

The highway is open and traffic is moving in both directions but people could experience delays. The highway may be reduced to single lane traffic when the tow trucks arrive to remove the vehicles from the ditch.

"Also, motorists must remember to slow down when driving by emergency vehicles," says Shelkie. "Paramedics, rescue workers and police officers are often out of their vehicles and working on scene."

Drivers should also exercise caution when around emergency service personnel for their safety and the safety of the victims they are attending to.
