PENTICTON - Canada Day activities could include a large waterslide through downtown Penticton this year.
The Downtown Penticton Association is hoping to bring Slide the City, which features a 1,000-foot waterslide, to Vancouver Avenue for July 1 and 2. The 24-foot wide waterslide will be fed with water from nearby fire hydrants and the area will be fenced in to allow local traffic to use the street, which will otherwise be shut down from Marina Way to Cambie Street.
A shuttle is planned to bring residents to the site and there will be washrooms provided at the site. Sixty volunteers will be needed to make the event happen.
Kamloops hosted a Slide the City event last year.
Fireworks are also in the plans for Canada Day, with the Downtown Penticton Association partnering with Penticton Rotary Club to supply a fireworks barge. A fundraising campaign will begin on Feb. 22 to help cover those costs.
