Ski resorts in the Okanagan and Kamloops are wrapping up their winter seasons, and they're going out with a bang.

Sun Peaks Resort near Kamloops has five days remaining in its season and is getting ready for a weekend filled with annual event traditions to close off the season on April 7.

To celebrate the end of the season, a Spring Fling ski improvement camp will take place on April 5 and 6, Tim Nutt will be performing a comedy show on April 5 at 8 p.m. and the Wonder Weekend will take place from April 6 to 7.

Sun Peaks Resort's Wonder Weekend will include events such as the Lift A Lager and the Snow Way Down Bike Slalom on Saturday, as well as the Slush Cup and Top to Bottoms Run on Sunday.

Aside from the events, Sun Peaks still has more than 100 alpine trails that remain open.

SilverStar Mountain Resort near Vernon is also set to close their mountain to skiers and snowboarders this weekend and is ending the season, as they do every year, with their Seismic Festival

The Seismic Festival includes free live music, different activities such as the Monster Rail and Box-Zilla Challenge on Saturday and a Ski Marathon on Sunday.

While their season started off slow, the weather at the resort has been more forgiving these past few weeks and is intended to stay so throughout the weekend.

"The spring skiing has been excellent and we’re looking forward to some sunny weather this weekend for our live music sets on Saturday," Doug Chimuk, Marketing Manager of SilverStar Mountain Resort, said in an emailed statement.

Big White Ski Resort near Kelowna will be the last to close its mountain on April 14, but until then, they also have a busy schedule of events

The resort is hosting the AltiTunes music festival this weekend which has the highest concert stage in Canada at 5,800 feet above sea level.

Throughout the next week, the resort will also be celebrating its 60th anniversary with some DJ sets, a Slush Cup on April 13 and some discounted prices.

"Next week, all week, from Monday to Sunday, we have DJs of the decades, so we're celebrating our 60th anniversary. On Monday, we'll have a DJ from the 60s, Tuesday's the 70s and so on and this weekend will be a compilation of it all," Michael J. Ballingall, Vice-President of Big White Ski Resort says.

"Lift tickets are $60 next week all week, and kids and seniors will have $30 tickets and all our discovery programs will be half-price."

Big White still has approximately 150 runs that remain open and 191 centimetres of snow at its base.

"We started off slow, but we ended with a bang. We had a great Spring Break and Easter weekend and the weather has just been fantastic and that's what we're expecting until the very end," Ballingall says.

Apex Mountain Ski Resort near Penticton closed its mountain to skiers and snowboarders last week.
