SUN PEAKS - If you were planning on heading out to Sun Peaks to catch the first chair on Saturday morning you better make other plans — the ski hill is now opening on Friday instead.
More than 47 centimetres of snow has now accumulated at mid-mountain levels and there is a chance of more snow before the week is done.
Ski teams began training on the hills Nov. 9 and the resort was originally planning to open to the public on Saturday, Nov. 21, but is now planning to open Friday.
Sun Peaks is not the only resort to open early. Alpine skiing at Big White opened two weeks ahead of schedule last week and Silver Star opened to cross country skiing last week as well. Whistler Mountain is also opening early, Nov. 19, while Blackcomb Mountain is planning for a Nov. 26 opening.
Harper Mountain is still hoping for a Dec. 12 opening.
