Ski And Snowboard With The Luck Of The Leprechauns This St. Patrick’s Day At Big White Ski Resort

KELOWNA – Big White is going an emerald shade of green this March 17 to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day.

As the resort is home to the highest Irish Bar in Canada – The Blarney Stone Irish Tavern – they decided to go all out for Paddy’s Day offering themed food, drinks, music, and traditional dancing. On top of this there will be drumming workshops, treasure hunts for that mystical pot of gold, house-made Guinness ice cream giveaways, and a chance to hit the slopes with some luck-wielding leprechauns.

Hitting the Slopes With a Leprechaun
At 10 a.m. meet the leprechauns in the village centre for some photos before you head out for a few runs on the Hummingbird slope at 11 a.m. Look out for the complimentary house-made Guinness ice cream being served by leprechauns in the village throughout the day. Sixteen pints of Guinness go into each batch, and are boiled down with molasses and sugar until it resembled a sweet tar. Fresh cream and milk are added and then it’s into the ice cream maker for an Irish inspired treat.

The Full Irish Fry-Up
Owned and operated by a true Irish owner from Strabane the action starts with a full Irish breakfast and pint of Irish ale at The Blarney Stone from 9 a.m. The full-Irish fry-up includes: bacon, fried eggs, sausage, black pudding, house-made baked beans, grilled tomatoes and mushrooms, as well as “boxty” which is an Irish potato pancake.

Après Ski With an Irish Twist
Have a pint from the “Irish Family” at the Blarney Stone, which includes: Guinness, Harp, Smithwicks, and Kilkenny. Wash is down with a whiskey chaser with 39 different options to choose from including six from the Emerald Isle. Dine on traditional fare with an Irish Lamb Stew, Steak 'n Guinness Pie, Irish Rarebit, and Colcannon (mashed potato with sautéed cabbage, onion and kale). The live music starts at noon and continues until midnight, with traditional Irish dancing performances at 6 p.m. and 9 p.m.

For the Little Leprechauns
An Irish Bodhran Drum workshop for kids and adults with a competitive "drum off" will judged by the Blarney Stone crowd at 7 p.m. with prizes to be won. A lucky Irish "Pot of Gold Treasure Hunt” will commence through the Inn at Big White hotel lobby and Blarney Stone restaurant for younger children. The Loose Moose will also have live music, food specials, and green beer from 4-6 p.m.

Located in the picturesque Okanagan Valley and a short 55-minute drive from Kelowna International Airport, the award-winning Big White Ski Resort is British Columbia’s second most popular ski resort and boasts the most ski-in, ski-out accommodation in Canada. Blessed with sunny weather, dry powder and a mild average temperature, Big White is best known as a family friendly resort where kids and adults can all have fun.
