VERNON - A child was killed today in a boating accident on Kalamalka Lake.
Police were called to the scene at roughly 6 p.m. today, Aug. 13, Vernon RCMP Cpl. Tania Finn says in a media release.
“A family from North Vancouver had been boating on the lake and was returning to dock. As the adult driver turned the boat, a six-year-old child fell over board and was struck by a part of the boat,” she says.
The child was rushed to the pier on Kalamalka Lake to meet emergency personnel but despite all efforts, the child died of injuries.
The Vernon-North Okanagan RCMP is assisting the B.C. Coroners Service and the family is receiving support from Vernon North Okanagan Victim Services, Finn says.
