If approved, a zoning amendment and development permit coming up before Penticton City Council tomorrow could be the beginning of a new apartment development downtown.
A proposal to build a six-storey, 34-unit apartment building on a currently vacant property at 154 Brunswick St. is set to come before council at its regular meeting tomorrow, April 21.
City staff are recommending first reading of a bylaw amendment and for council to consider issuing a building permit for the project. The property will need to be rezoned.
An older, single family dwelling previously occupied the property. It was demolished in 2019 in preparation for the proposed development, according to a city staff report.
The site is within walking distance to downtown, Okanagan Lake and the South Okanagan Events Centre, in addition to being well serviced with alternative transportation methods and nearby transit stops.
The development would contribute $188,632 in development cost charges to the City and would require a water main upgrade along Brunswick Street from Westminster Avenue to the property, at the applicant’s expense.
The Official Community Plan for the neighbourhood supports three- to six-storey apartment buildings.
