Six hotels have now been removed from the City of Kamloops’ list of ‘nuisance properties.’
Following crime prevention assessments done at hotels and motels on Columbia Street West, a city press release said there have been fewer service calls and crime at the properties.
The crime prevention assessments, led by Kamloops’ Community Services Division in partnership with Kamloops Fire Rescue and RCMP, recommended several improvements to each property.
Among others, they recommended lighting improvements, improved locks, property maintenance and improved fencing along perimeters. Best Western Plus, Panorama Inn and Suites, Grandview Motel, Ramada, Columbia Motor Inn and Knights Inn have all been removed from the nuisance list as a result.
“With the cooperation of the businesses and partner agencies, the city has seen a dramatic change to the upkeep and processes of the properties assessed, and as a result, service calls for the area have dropped significantly in a short period of time,” the city of Kamloops press statement said.
As of Dec. 31, 2020, a total of 24 properties had been deemed ‘nuisances’, according to a community services report to the city. A total of $6985.32 in fees had been issued through 2020.
