LAKE COUNTRY — Juno award nominee Jill Barber is coming to the Okanagan this fall.

Her albums have sold over 100,000 copies, a Lake Country District media release says, and her album "Mischievous Moon" spent 13 weeks at number one on the Canadian Jazz Charts. Her sound has evolved over many albums, so that her success is not defined by genre, but by her songwriting chops and distinct voice.

“Creekside Theatre is proud to continue its tradition of featuring some of Canada’s biggest and brightest talents in our intimate soft-seat venue,” district cultural development coordinator Ryan Donn says in the release. “Regardless of Jill’s influences, the one thing you are always assured of is that you know a Jill Barber song when you hear it, and chances are you’ll never forget it.”

Barber has earned over twenty award nominations, and released two top-selling albums in English. In 2013 she launched the French-language album “Chansons” after performing in the Montreal Jazz Festival.

Last year, 2018, she released the album "Metaphora."

"Barber boldly bursts into the world of contemporary pop music," the release says. "The dramatic result is a Jill Barber like you've never heard before; a showcase of her power and vulnerability as both an artist and a woman. Metaphora is a continuation of Barber's musical story that confidently tackles everything from issues of empowerment, sexual politics, the complications of love and depression. It's introspective and personal. It's also a dance party."

Barber says in the release that the album's opening track "The Woman" is "a song about how a woman is required to be everything to everyone, but may still be a mystery to her own self. She is part of nature, but also has a nature of her own, ever-changing and elusive."

Barber's performance is slated for Oct. 10, 2019. Tickets go on sale May 24 at 9 a.m.
