PENTICTON - A premier food and wine event will take place at a local winery this weekend.

The 2015 Similkameen Barbecue King gets underway at the Grist Mill in Keremeos, beginning at 5 p.m. on Saturday, July 11. Eight chefs from throughout the South Okanagan and Similkameen will compete to provide the most crowd pleasing wine and food pairings to those in attendance.

“This truly unique wine and food experience is a competition where our featured chefs will create unique dishes for you using organic ingredients from local farmers in the heart of Canada’s organic capital. Each chef receives an identical basket of ingredients, yet each chef prepares those ingredients into remarkably different dishes,” Similkameen WIneries Association President Caroline Cottrill says.

Those in attendance have the opportunity to vote for best food and wine pairing by the 11 competing chefs, including three 'small bites' competitors.

John Rosseau and Paul Henbury from The River Line will headline entertainment for the event, followed by local entertainers They Them Theirs and Wild Organic Humans. There’s also artwork by Similkameen artists on display and a silent auction that is a partial fundraiser for the Grist Mill.

Similkameen Wineries Association Kim Lawton says tickets are still available for the event. A few shuttle seats are also available for Penticton and Summerland residents. The shuttle cost is included in the ticket price of $90. For more information go online at www.SimilkameenWine.com/events.
