VERNON - The sun looks ready to set on a nearly 20-year-old group in northern Vernon as they seek to close the door on their own terms.
The Silver Star Community Services Administration Service was established in 2001 to provide general administration for regional matters in the Silver Star Mountain community. Now after years of dwindling services, Silver Star's stakeholders are seeking to officially dissolve the group through a bylaw.
According to an agenda report submitted by corporate services, the Regional District of North Okanagan Board of Directors will give first, second, and third reading to Bylaw no. 2757 at their regular meeting on Jan. 23. If they sign off on it, the bylaw will be sent to the Inspector of Municipalities for approval.
The bylaw is designed to repeal the Silver Star administration service. Once the dotted line is signed, the group will just be a memory.
According to the report, the service was established in response to numerous developments in the Silver Star area (which resides in Electoral Area "C"). However, over time the number of developments has levelled out, leading to a decreased demand for administrative services. Several committees were disbanded before the Silver Star stakeholders liaison group expressed their desire to dissolve the service entirely.
The report stated the service requisitioned $15,740 in taxes for 2018.
