Shuswap woman's death being investigated; RCMP say circumstances suspicious

The unexpected death of a 60-year-old Chase woman has resulted in an arrest of a man who was "well known" to her.

The BC RCMP Southeast District Major Crime Unit was sent to the Shuswap region to assume an investigation into the unexpected death of a woman, whose identity has not been disclosed.

Chase RCMP officers were dispatched a day earlier, April 27 shortly after 11:30 p.m., to a residence situated in the 8600 block of Holding Road near Adams Lake. RCMP didn't say why they were dispatched to the home in a release distributed today but noted that once on scene first responders found a woman, dead inside the home.

"An adult male was taken into police custody, without incident, by front line RCMP officers at the scene," Staff Sgt. Scott Aschenbrenner, unit commander of the Southeast District Major Crime Unit, said in a press release.

"Although a full determination surrounding criminality has not yet been made, the circumstances surrounding the woman’s death are being considered suspicious in nature at this time."

The victim is 60-year-old woman. RCMP have not released her identity.

The man taken into police custody was well known to the deceased, and the RCMP do not believe there is any risk to the general public.

The BC Coroners Service has been notified and has launched its own concurrent fact-finding investigation into the woman’s unexpected death.

The RCMP Southeast District Major Crime Unit has taken over the ongoing investigation and continues to be supported by the Chase RCMP.

Anyone with any additional information is asked to contact the RCMP Southeast District Major Crime Unit information line at 1-877-987-8477.
