Shuswap man charged with second-degree murder of 66-year-old Sicamous woman

A 37-year-old Sicamous man has been charged with second-degree murder following the death of a 66-year-old woman at a Sicamous mobile home park a week ago.

According to a BC RCMP Southeast District Major Crime Unit media release issued today, June 26, Scott Keith McDonald has been charged in relation to the death of Jo Ann Jackson on June 19.

"The securing of charge approval was the culmination of the tireless efforts involving investigators from the Southeast District Major Crime Unit, BC RCMP Forensic Identification Services, Support Services, the Sicamous RCMP and Salmon Arm RCMP," BC RCMP Southeast District Senior Investigating Officer, Insp. Brent Novakoski said in the release.

Police originally got the call about an unresponsive woman in a driveway at the mobile home park at 1707 Hillier Road in Sicamous shortly before 5 a.m., June 19.

McDonald was arrested at the scene but released the next day under conditions, but without being charged.

The move prompted the District of Sicamous to call for a formal meeting with the Ministry of Public Safety to address violent crime in the community with this being the third homicide in two years in the small community.

McDonald now remains in custody and is scheduled for a bail hearing July 2.
