Snowfalls warnings that came into effect yesterday in the South Thompson and North Okanagan have come to an end, but other weather warnings persist throughout the Southern Interior.
Between 25 and 40 centimetres of snow is expected in the Shuswap today, Feb. 26, and a winter storm warning is in effect through Environment Canada.
“A long-duration snowfall event will continue,” the warning says. “Consider postponing non-essential travel until conditions improve.”
The Coquihalla Highway is still expected to get a total of 25 centimetres of snow between Hope and Merritt by tonight.
“In the wake of the front, an unstable airmass will produce flurries and may give up to 10 cm of localized snow quickly,” the warning says.
And along Highway 3 from the Boundary to West Kootenays – the areas of Grand Forks, Castlegar and Trail – 15 to 20 cm is expected between now and this afternoon.
“Rapidly accumulating snow may result in challenging travel conditions with low visibility,” according to the snowfall warning.
