LYTTON - A man who went missing while he was on a vision quest hasn't been seen in nearly seven years, and police are asking for help.

Darcy Brian Turner was reported missing June 20, 2011. He was 55 years old when he went missing, and had gone into Stein Valley Nlaka'pamux Heritage Park near Lytton on June 4.

Turner was on a vision quest, a traditional journey he had done for five years, police say in a news release.

Turner made plans to be picked up after the excursion on June 19, 2011, but failed to return. Lytton RCMP and volunteers conducted a six-day search including two helicopters, a search dog team, and 35 volunteers, police say.

"The trail is challenging and off-trail travel is virtually impossible due to blow-down, flooding, high water and steep terrain," North District Cpl. Madonna Saunderson says in the release.

Police tracked down and spoke with two people who saw Turner at the start of his quest, but there have been no reported sightings of him since.

He's described as Metis, between 5'7" and 5'11", 160 lbs. to 200 lbs., with brown eyes, thinning shoulder length grey hair and unshaven.

He may have been wearing a blue and black jacket, an orange T-shirt, khaki pants, a blue-grey baseball cap and hiking boots. He may have also had a blue backpack with a sleeping bag attached and a small blue tarp.

Police say this remains an active investigation and officers have pursued every lead, however have been unable to locate Turner or determine what may have happened. Anyone with information is asked to call Lytton RCMP at 250-455-2225.
