Serious crimes unit investigates body found in Vernon park

Vernon RCMP

VERNON - Police continue to investigate the death of a man found in Polson Park Wednesday.

The man’s body was discovered shortly before 10 a.m. Aug. 26. In a media release issued today, Aug. 27, RCMP spokesperson Gord Molendyk confirmed the man was in his late 40s, but said his identity is not being released until next of kin has been notified.

The B.C. Coroner’s Service and members of the Vernon Serious Crimes Unit continue to investigate, but no cause of death has yet been determined, Molendyk said. An autopsy is expected to be done in the next few days to determine the cause of death.

A portion of Polson Park was cordoned off by police Wednesday while the coroners service and police forensic identification investigators examined the scene. Public access to areas of the park was restricted for much of the day, but reopened to the public in the afternoon.
