Senior riding scooter killed in South Okanagan collision

A crash involving a scooter in the South Okanagan claimed the life of a man in his 70s on the weekend.

RCMP say the crash happened at around 1:30 p.m. Sunday, May 10, on Highway 97 near Tuc El Nuit Drive in Oliver.

A Nissan Murano collided with a man in his 70s riding a scooter, according to an RCMP media release. The man on the scooter was taken to hospital where he later succumbed to his injuries.

The driver of the Nissan remained at the scene and cooperated with authorities. He wasn't hurt.

Investigators have ruled out speed and impairment as contributing factors in the collision, but are looking for witnesses.

Police say two motorcycles were captured on video surveillance travelling north in a side-by-side fashion just prior to the collision. Investigators would like to speak to the riders as they may have observed something that could aid in the investigation.

Anyone with information about the collision, or the two motorcyclists, are asked to call RCMP South Okanagan Traffic Services at 250-499-2250, and cite file 2020-2129.
