A 68-year-old woman has died after falling into a creek this morning in West Kelowna.
The incident happened at roughly 10 a.m., May 11, when the senior was walking in Glen Canyon Regional Park.
Kelowna RCMP spokesperson Const. Mike Della-Paolera told iNFOnews.ca the woman was swept away by the water and didn't survive. He said first responders found the woman's body about 20 minutes after she fell.
Const. Della-Paolera said the water is dangerous right now and fast flowing.
The police officer said the woman was walking with a friend at the time.
"This was a tragedy that will affect many and we are grateful for the quick response from our RCMP officers and the West Kelowna Fire Department who risked their lives to locate the female quickly. Our hearts are with the family of this woman,” Della-Paolera said in a media release.
He said her family has been notified and the case has been handed over to the BC Coroners Service.
