Boats are banned from evacuation areas on Adams Lake, but that hasn't stopped them from venturing into the area.
The Columbia Shuswap Regional District is enlisting help from RCMP after boaters "taunted" security staff on Aug. 7, according to a news release.
"Security is in place for the protection of the properties. These personnel deserve to be treated with respect," the release reads.
The regional district didn't detail the incident, but did say RCMP and conservation officers will be patrolling the area to stop boaters from entering the evacuation zone.
"Should there continue to be issues with boaters attempting to access the area, additional security resources will be deployed," the release continued.
The regional district evacuated dozens of properties on the southwest corner of the lake this month due to the growing wildfire, which was last estimated to cover more than 4,800 hectares.
BC Wildfire Service crews are building fire guards on the southern flank, near Rawson Road, aiming to prevent more southern expansion.
It has the potential to reach the Lee Creek area in the "coming days," depending on weather conditions, according to the wildfire service.
They are urging residents to prepare their properties for a wildfire in case it does spread further. More information can be found here.
