VERNON - A man lost at night in Kalamalka Provincial Park on the weekend made the right decision when he called home to say he was turned around, and losing battery life on his cell phone.

That call prompted a quick response from RCMP and Vernon Search and Rescue, who immediately dispatched to the Cougar Canyon area of the park around 8:40 p.m., Saturday, May 2.

Rescuers located the 29-year-old just after midnight. He'd been out on his motorcycle.

“He was not injured, but he was not equipped to be out overnight,” Molendyk says.

Molendyk says it’s good the man had the forethought to call his mother before his phone died, especially since darkness was falling.
