KELOWNA - The search for a 71-year-old missing Kelowna kayaker entered its third day on Sunday, May 19.
According to a Kelowna RCMP press release, Zygmunt Janiewicz failed to return to shore from the Okanagan Lake after he went kayaking at 2:30 p.m. on May 17. He was seen entering the water from the shoreline in the 3000 block of Abbott Street.
“An abandoned surf ski personal water craft and personal floatation device, similar to the ones being used by Mr. Janiewicz were recovered along the shore near Watt Road,” said Cpl. Jesse O’Donaghey in the release.
Crews from the Kelowna RCMP, Kelowna Fire Department, Central Okanagan Search and Rescue, and West Kelowna RCMP have searched the shoreline for signs for Janiewicz. Search and Rescue has used its helicopter to get a bird's eye view while the Fire Department and West Kelowna RCMP are using vessels in the lake.
Janiewicz was last seen wearing a yellow jacket, a white hat, and a pair of black pants. Anyone with information on his whereabouts is asked to call Kelowna RCMP at 250-762-3300.
