Search and rescue called in to locate missing geocacher

CACHE CREEK - A geocacher who couldn’t find her way back out of the bush is relying on Kamloops Search and Rescue members to help her get back to her vehicle Tuesday.

Search Manager Alan Hobler says a woman geocaching on a forest service road near Hat Creek, just north of Cache Creek, was out alone and found herself unable to find her way back to her vehicle.

The woman called RCMP around 5 p.m., March 31, and search crews were called out a short time later.

A total of 12 members are attending the search, which Hobler expects to go fairly quickly given the woman realized she was lost and called authorities instead of wandering around. It also appears she is not too far from where she started and was able to provide the coordinates of her current location.

He notes it’s easy to get turned around in the bush and recommends anyone heading out with GPS systems use the track back feature or set waypoints at their vehicle to make it easier to find their way back.
