KAMLOOPS – The company contracted to maintain the Coquihalla Highway has produced a video with terrifying footage of vehicles passing snow plows.
The VSA Highway Maintenance video shows drivers caught on camera making dangerous decisions behind the wheel. In once case, a pickup truck zigzags between two plows.
There have been an above average number incidents of cars hitting plows this winter and the company’s hope is the video will educate drivers.
One of the snow plow operators interviewed in the video says passing a plow creates a dangerous situation for both the operator and the driver.
“Passing a plow truck on the right while it is actively plowing snow, you’re putting yourself and your family, the occupants of your vehicle at risk. There’s no question,” a highways maintenance manager says in the video.
Bob Gilowski with VSA says all they want is people to arrive safely at their destinations.
He asks drivers to be patient and stay well back of snow plows, adding the operator will pull over and let the vehicles pass when it is safe to do so.
