Warnings of a serial offender in Vernon are unfounded, the RCMP said in response to social media posts claiming there is one.
The police realize why the public likes to share such information as it could relate to public safety, but remind people to confirm the validity of information before posting it to avoid undue harm.
"The safety and security of our community is our number one priority and, should we become aware of an immediate risk to the public, we would certainly notify them in an accurate and timely manner," Vernon North Okanagan RCMP spokesperson Const. Chris Terleski said in a media release.
"That notification would come through our mainstream media partners and other trusted sources."
Nevertheless, the Vernon RCMP urges the public to report any incidents to them that may not have been reported yet.
