KELOWNA - The Kelowna Rockets jumped out to an early lead, but the Victoria Royals scored three second period goals to beat the Rockets 3-2 in Western Hockey League exhibition play at Prospera Place in Kelowna on Saturday night.
Kris Schmidli and Colton Heffley staked the Rockets to a 2-0 first period lead, but two power play goals in the second period by Victoria sparked the Royals' comeback.
Tyler Soy scored the game winner, beating Rockets prospect Jake Morrissey, who faced 19 shots in net.
The Royals finished the night 2-for-5 on the power play while the Rockets were 0-for-5.
Kelowna closed out the WHL preseason with a 2-4-0-0 record, playing the night minus eight regulars who are off at NHL training camps.
Most of the players are expected back by Sept. 20, when the Rockets host the Kamloops Blazers at 7 p.m. at Prospera Place.
