KAMLOOPS - Patients with cardiovascular illness will now have access to more specialized care in Kamloops.

Royal Inland Hospital CEO Heidi Coleman has announced in a media release the opening of a new four-bed unit called the ICCHA/Wish Coronary Care unit.

It’s the latest stage in a multi-year cardiac services plan to enhance services at the hospital. Patients will be able to receive monitoring and treatment for a variety of cardiac illnesses. This is a capital investment of $1.3 million towards renovation and equipment funded by Interior Health, the Thompson Regional Hospital District and Royal Inland Hospital Foundation.

“The Thompson Regional Hospital District is proud to support improved cardiac care at Royal Inland Hospital,” Thompson Regional Hospital District chair Ken Christian says in the release. “The TRHD’s $355,000 capital investment represents our partnership contribution toward better outcomes for coronary patients in this region.”

The hospital’s cardiologist team has also expanded to six specialist physicians.

“I’m confident that we’ll have better retention of our current physicians, and will be able to attract future specialists because we have a Coronary Care Unit at Royal Inland Hospital.” Dr. Todd Ring, Royal Inland Hospital Chief of Staff says in the release.

The unit is located on the seventh floor and will officially open to patients tomorrow, Oct. 1.
