KELOWNA - The roof has been raised on the multi-sport dome in West Kelowna.

The City of West Kelowna released a picture of the structure, saying that even though it'll be several weeks yet before it's ready for practices and games the roof has been raised.

The dome was created for sports groups in the City of West Kelowna that requested amenities that will extend play and practice times into evenings in spring and fall and allow skills development and competitions over winter when outdoor fields are closed.

In spring 2017, Council also identified the planning and design of a multi-sport facility in their Strategic Priorities.

To support the development of an air-supported multi-use facility and other park needs, the City purchased property at 2139 McDougall Road in the Rose Valley neighbourhood, south of Rosewood Sports Field and Mar Jok Elementary School.

The Super-8-sized, synthetic turf field will be covered by an air-supported structure system.

The cost of the project is $4.1 million including design, engineering, site preparation, construction, contingencies and commissioning. Westside Youth Soccer is providing $667,000 toward the construction of the project; thank you.

When completed, the multi-use dome will align with Rosewood Sports Field, Mar Fee Park and Trails and Mar Jok Elementary Schools to create three square kilometres of contiguous public amenities along McDougall Road, Rosewood Drive and Westlake Road.
