The Penticton Peach Festival has announced iconic Scottish rock band Nazareth as its headline act this year.

Nazareth will headline the festival's opening day on Wednesday, Aug. 7, and will be joined by the award-winning Phonix Dance Band.

"We're thrilled to welcome the legendary Nazareth and the phenomenal Phonix Dance Band to the Penticton Peach Festival. This promises to be an epic night of music and celebration, setting the tone for an unforgettable Peach Festival,” Shawna Tinga, the festival president, said in a press release issued today, March 13.

Nazareth has left an undeniable mark on rock music since its birth in 1970.

Their breakthrough album "Razamanaz" was released in 1973 and featured well-known songs like "Broken Down Angel" and "Bad Bad Boy."

Their later album "Hair Of The Dog" gave the band international acclaim, with the chart-topping single "Love Hurts”.

Since then, the band has recorded 23 studio albums and earned three platinum and eight gold albums in Canada alone.

Their latest record "Rock'n'Roll Telephone" released in 2014 showcases the band’s five-decade-long legacy.

Before Nazareth hits the stage, the Grammy, JUNO and CCMA award-winning members of Phonix Dance Band will perform.

The nine-piece band will play an eclectic set list that includes classic hits from the 1950s and today’s modern hits.
