KAMLOOPS – Construction in the city continues to press on and here is what you need to know when commuting this coming week.

The Columbia Street construction project remains the same from the week before with work continuing on the south side of the street. Pedestrians are asked to use the north sidewalk and the crosswalks at Fourth Avenue and Third Avenue to access the southside businesses and the hospital.

Still only a minimum of two lanes in either direction on Columbia Street between Third Avenue and Sixth Avenue remain open.

Because of the high temperatures construction crews will be working on Overlanders Bridge between 3 a.m. and 2 p.m.

These crews will be pouring concrete and in an effort to minimize the vibration on the bridge motorists are reminded to obey the  construction zone speed limit of 30 kilometres per hour. Pilot vehicles are on on standby and will be used to enforce the speed limit as needed.

The Fortune Drive sidewalk has re-opened to pedestrians though the pedestrian ramp connecting Fortune Drive to Tranquille Road remains closed.

On Tuesday, July 7, there will be a full road closure at the intersection of 12 Street and Sherbrooke Avenue with detours in effect. The next day, Wednesday, July 8, the road will be closed at the intersection of 12 Street and Lethbridge Avenue with detours also in effect.

The rest of the week will vary between single alternating traffic, two lane traffic and local traffic only.

Work is wrapping up on Hugh Allan Drive between Pacific Way and Versatile Drive where the road is being widened and a roundabout installed to help deal with the anticipated increases in traffic the new casino is expected to bring.
