VERNON - There are lots of choices for how to spend New Year’s Eve and New Year's Day in Vernon.

You can take in an impressive fireworks display and the popular torchlight parade at Silver Star Mountain Resort at 8 p.m. on Dec. 31. Guests wishing to participate in the torchlight parade must pre-register by Dec. 28.

You could also head to Record City on 30 Avenue downtown Vernon for a night of live music and dancing on Friday, Dec. 30. The evening will feature entertainment by Petunia and the Vipers and local guests including Tidal Baby, The Left Coast Jug Band, Good Golly, Chicken Like Birds and Mice in the Honey Bucket. Tickets are $25 and include a drink and appetizers.

Check out Match Eatery & Public House for more live music, including Noble Crew and DJ Larry from 9 p.m. to 3 a.m. on Dec. 31.

Meanwhile, The Kal is hosting a ‘Trash and Class’ night where everyone can get dressed up in their best ‘redneck, hillbilly or white trash outfit.’ The ‘class’ portion of the evening will involve dinner, champagne and a midnight snack included in the $20 ticket. DJ Mike Brat and Vernon native Chris Oliver (DJ Switch) will provide live music.

Roll out of bed on New Year’s Day and enjoy brunch and games at the Naked Pig BBQ and Smoke House. The restaurant is hosting a family day event from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

You can also get a jump on those New Year’s resolutions with the Active Celebration at the Greater Vernon Recreation Centre. In honour of the City of Vernon’s 125th anniversary, the centre is hosting a two-day event on Jan. 1 and Jan. 2 featuring a kick-off ceremony, bouncy castles and more. Admission is $10 per family, $3 for adults and $2 for children 12 and under.
