PENTICTON - Enjoy the summer like conditions while you can today, because a return to more normal May weather is in the forecast.
Environment Canada meteorologist Cindy Yu says the weather will be transitioning tomorrow, May 29, as an upper low moves into the Southern Interior.
“Today is probably the last day where we can see the temperatures in the high 20s in the Thompson-Okanagan,” Yu says.
Starting tomorrow, temperatures will fall to more seasonal values, with daytime highs in the Okanagan between 18 to 21 Celsius, and temperatures of around 21 C for Kamloops.
Showers across the region are anticipated Tuesday and Wednesday with seasonal temperatures expected for the remainder of the week.
Normal temperatures for this time of year in Kamloops are highs of 23 C and lows of 10 C. In the Okanagan, seasonal normals are highs of 21 C and lows around 8 C
“Expect seasonal values with some cloud cover through the rest of the week,” Yu says.
The change in temperatures should be ideal conditions for the spring freshet, as it will slow down the melt of the remaining high elevation snowpack, she said.
Anticipated rain in the forecast this week should also benefit wildfire fighters in the region, although Yu says meteorologists will be watching for the possibility of thunderstorms breaking out in the southern part of the province.
