A spokesperson said the information was released in error and that more decisions need to be made before deciding how the regional district will handle the issue of the Greater Vernon Cultural Centre.
An earlier version of this story said the regional district failed to get an important $15 million grant to build the proposed $40 million cultural centre and would be re-drafting its designs for a $25 million cultural centre. The story also said the regional district would not go to referendum and would instead go to an alternate approval process.
A spokesperson said the information released implied that the total project budget was capped at $25 million, however, there is the possibility of securing additional funding through grants and fundraising which could increase the total project budget. The regional district clarified that the borrowing portion of the funding is limited to $25 million, and an Alternative Approval Process will be launched this fall to reconfirm the community’s support. The RDNO is also continuing the planning process.
