A rally for climate change is happening in Kamloops and all residents are encouraged to show up and be a part of it.

Residents are invited to take action, voice their concerns and let politicians know that they want strong climate leadership and action, according to a media release by organizer Margaret Huff.

Kamloops Climate Cafes and Transition Kamloops are organizing the Global Day of Climate Justice rally in support of the global climate talks world leaders are currently having in Glasgow, Scotland, called COP26.

“We know that the citizens of Kamloops realize the seriousness of the climate crisis and we know that people of Kamloops want to see strong action," said organizer Huff in the release. "We invite everyone who supports change to come out to this event.”

There will be guest speakers at the rally and a pledge for residents and local leaders to sign that supports taking strong action to tackle the climate emergency, as well as discussion on what steps to take in Kamloops.

“Scientists have told us, we are down to the wire," said organizer George Johnson in the release. "We need to act now. Let’s work together and make our voices heard."

Currently, the biggest threat to humanity is the ever-escalating consequences of climate breakdown, which we are witnessing daily and increasingly on both a local and global level, said the release.

The rally is being held at Stuart Wood School Playing Field on the 200 block of St. Paul Street from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., Nov. 6.
