VERNON - Vernon Search and Rescue came to the aid of a woman who got stuck on a steep embankment following a car crash early this morning.

The volunteer group was called about 2:30 a.m. to assist B.C. Ambulance with a high-angle rope rescue east of Cherryville, spokesperson Trevor Honigman says in a release.

“Arriving on scene they assessed the situation, finding a vehicle roughly 20 metres down a very steep bank, with the female subject roughly 50 metres further down the bank below the vehicle,” Honigman says.

Rescue teams set up and deployed a rope system, and with help from the RCMP and Lumby Fire Department members, hoisted the subject up the steep slope to the safety of the roadway, Honigman says.

“The subject was then transferred to the care of waiting B.C. Ambulance personnel, who took the patient to the Vernon Jubilee Hospital, where she is currently undergoing further care,” he says.

Vernon Search and Rescue is reminding drivers to be very careful on the icy roads, and to always be prepared with blankets, snow clothing, and first aid in their vehicles during the winter season.
