RCMP have recovered over $500,000 worth of stolen goods from a repeat property crime offender in Kelowna.

In September, the Kelowna RCMP Target Team launched an investigation into Kevin James Brophy, a known criminal who relocated to Kelowna from the Kootenays, according to an RCMP media release issued today, Nov 7.

Several agencies across the Okanagan worked together on a coordinated operation including Summerland RCMP, Lake Country RCMP, Vernon RCMP and frontline Kelowna RCMP members to intercept and recover stolen property from Brophy.

Brophy was arrested by frontline officers while breaking into a secure compound in Kelowna on Oct. 21.

He faces multiple charges including break and enter, possession of stolen property over $5,000, theft over $5,000, theft under $5,000 and mischief. He may also face additional charges as officers continue to investigate other incidents he is believed to be associated with.

“This coordinated investigation shows the continued efforts of the Kelowna RCMP and it’s Proactive Enforcement Units including the Target Team to reduce property crime and target active offenders in our community,” Cpl. Guillaume Tanguay of the Kelowna RCMP Target Team, said in the release.

For now, Brophy has been remanded in custody where he will remain until his next court appearance scheduled for Nov. 16.
