Closed signs and, where feasible, fences are going up around all play structures at regional parks throughout the Central Okanagan in order to combat the spread of COVID-19.
“The action is not taken lightly, especially since many parents are looking for opportunities to have their children outside and active,” states a news release from the Regional District of the Central Okanagan
“The province’s chief medical health officer issued clear directives that playgrounds are not suitable environments for social distancing and make it difficult to curb the spread of the virus," the release states. "In addition, play structures and equipment are very hard to sanitize and keep clean."
The regional district still encourages people to go outside to get fresh air and exercise, as long as they maintain social distancing. It will continue to maintain its 30 regional parks and 20 community parks.
