Regional district expects high water in flood prone areas this spring

PENTICTON - It's been a rough couple of years for South Okanagan residents living in flood zones and the regional district is preparing for more flooding this spring.

This year there are high amounts of groundwater throughout the Okanagan and Similkameen, which means there is a risk of flooding from rainfall events, according to a regional district media release.

“Groundwater levels are currently higher than normal due to wet conditions experienced in 2017 and 2018, creating an increased potential for flooding during freshet in 2019,” the regional district says.

The district recommends residents living in flood-prone areas have preparedness plans in place.

You can get more information by calling the regional district at 250-492-0237 or on the district website here.
