Kylee Walker scored her first career goal as the Heat women's soccer score twice late to knock off the visiting WolfPack (2-1) on the Thanksgiving long weekend.

KELOWNA - The UBC Okanagan Heat defeated the Thompson Rivers WolfPack by a final score of 2-1 in women's soccer competition on Saturday afternoon.
A cold and rainy contest at Nonis Field in Kelowna saw Thompson Rivers hold the lead late in the match, with Marisa Mendonca's first-half goal standing as the only one of the day until the Heat scored in the 81st, and went on to take the lead in the 87th.
The only goal of the first half was set up by a quick pass outside the box from first year WolfPack defender Mia Simpson. That pass was taken by second year Thompson Rivers midfielder Marisa Mendonca, who buried a shot top left corner from the top of the box in the 39th minute.
The first goal for UBC Okanagan came in the 81st minute, when first year Heat midfielder Kylee walker received an excellent through ball, from second year forward Kaylin Ferguson, and slipped the ball to the left of charging freshman WolfPack keeper Alyssa Smith for her first goal of the season.
The Heat beat Smith once more in the match, taking their first lead of the contest in the 87th minute. A poor defensive clear by the WolfPack resulted in a scramble in the six-yard box, out of which second year UBC Okanagan midfielder Lauren Candelario was able to corral the ball and tap in her second goal of the season, also the game winner.
With the win, the UBC Okanagan Heat improve their Canada West record to 4-6 and remain in 6th place in the conference's Pacific Division. Thompson Rivers see their record fall to 1-9 on the season, and stay in 7th place in the Pacific Division.
The UBC Okanagan Heat will play their next match on Friday, October 14 when they travel to Edmonton to face the University of Alberta. The Thompson Rivers WolfPack will play their next match on Friday, October 14 as well, when they travel to Prince George to face the UNBC Timberwolves.
