Ready to face the world

Look rested, feel refreshed with Botox or fillers administered gently and thoroughly at SenSei Laser and Vein Rejuvenation Centre.

We have all looked at ourselves in the mirror at one time or another and noticed we are looking a little different than we did the year, or five years before. Maybe our skin is dulling, our frown lines are a little deeper or our pores are appearing larger.

We may not be able to stop time or aging, but there is a way we can look and feel more vibrant and rested as time rolls on.

“There’s no age limit to looking more rested. People don’t want to look different, but just look rested,” explains Dr. Corrina Iampen, owner of SenSei Laser and Vein Rejuvenation Centre in West Kelowna.

With such busy and demanding lives, we can be left feeling exhausted and that shows on our faces. Dr. Iampen explains that there are two simple procedures that can help tremendously with this; Botox and dermal fillers. Over the past couple of decades, it’s become more acceptable and common to use these gentle procedures to assist us in aging gracefully.

“When a patient comes in, we address their concerns and spend time talking with them about what is bothering them and what areas they want to improve.”

Dr. Iampen says that both procedures take very little time, there is less risk then with surgery and little to no down time. “There has also been some advancement with some of the fillers to improve the longevity.”

The results with dermal fillers, commonly made of hyaluronic acid gel, collagen or various other synthetics, are fairly immediate and can last anywhere from a few months to a year depending on the type of filler used.

Dr. Iampen says that as we age we lose volume or plumpness in our faces due to a decrease in hyaluronic acid and collagen, particularly in our cheeks and temples. Fillers can restore some of this volume as well as fill in wrinkles.

There may be a small amount of swelling in the face or very minor bruising, which will disappear within a week or two. After a few weeks the filler will have settled and continued improvement will be seen. A procedure can take about 20 to 30 minutes.

When we talk about Botox, we’re referring to injections using a purified form of the botulinum toxin that block chemical signals from nerves that cause our muscles to contract. Botox is part of the neuromodulator family.

Dr. Iampen explains that this procedure relaxes the muscles and minimizes repetitive facial movements that lead to wrinkles.

“A Botox injection will last up to four months with noticeable results in seven to ten days.”

Dr. Iampen says that these neuromodulators can also be used for people who suffer from excessive sweating or bladder incontinence. The latter of which is done in a hospital setting.

Those seeking fillers or Botox at Dr. Iampen’s office range in age and gender from their early 20s into their 80s.

“It all starts with a consult to be sure the patient is the right candidate for the procedure they are requesting,” says the doctor, who has been in the cosmetic industry for 28 years. This passion is evident in her work and dedication to her patients.
