RDOS invites residents to recycle old Christmas lights

Don’t chuck those old Christmas Lights in the garbage! Recycling programs exist across the Regional District for all lighting equipment and bulbs.

Christmas tree lights contain valuable recyclable metal wire. Year-round, you can recycle lamps, light strings, flashlights and any type of light bulb at the J&C Bottle Depot in Penticton, the T-2 Market Bottle Depot in Oliver and the Osoyoos Bottle Depot. The Campbell Mountain, Oliver and Keremeos Landfills will also accept all lighting equipment and bulbs. For more information on this recycling program, visit www.lightrecycle.ca.

After recycling your old incandescent Christmas lights, replace them with new LED light strings. LED light strings last ten times longer, use up to 90% less power and reduce the risk of fire.

If you have any questions, please contact the RDOS Solid Waste Department at 250-490-4129, toll free 1-877-610-3737 ext. 4129, by e-mail at info@rdos.bc.ca or visit www.rdos.bc.ca.
