The Regional District of Central Okanagan is taking more money from residents this year to pay for “critical services”.
The RDCO budget is increasing this year from $65 million to $69 million, and to accommodate this increase, property tax rates are going up, according to a press release from the district.
“Priorities within the plan include a focus on emergency preparedness, stewardship of the environment and providing residents with avenues for improving or maintaining their health and wellness,” the district’s financial services director Tania McCabe said in the release. “The draft financial plan focuses on continuing to deliver critical services to our communities, advancing the priorities of the regional board and fulfilling regulatory requirements, all while keeping pace with growth and inflation.”
The district’s property tax rates are different from municipalities since rates vary depending on where a property is.
People living in Electoral Area West and East pay more than people living in Kelowna, Peachland, Lake Country and West Kelowna.

Residents in Peachland and West Kelowna will be paying $17 more, in Kelowna $15 more, and in Lake Country $9 more. Electoral Area West residents will see another $150 on their taxes, and Electoral Area East residents will pay another $112.
“The draft 2025-2029 Financial Plan is ready for review, and we are seeking feedback from residents on programming, funding requirements and initiatives,” McCabe said.
There is a meeting for residents to see the 2025-2029 Financial Plan on Jan. 16 at 1450 KLO Road. There is also an online form where residents can ask questions and voice their concerns until 4 p.m. on Feb. 6.
