RCMP watchdog investigating after woman injured during arrest in Salmon Arm

The province's independent police watchdog is investigating after a woman was injured while she was being arrested in Salmon Arm.

Police responded to a report of a disturbance at a residence in the 200 block of 27 Street NE, in Salmon Arm at roughly 9:15 p.m., Feb. 13. Officers found several people at the residence, and one woman who was reportedly intoxicated was asked to leave, according to a news release issued by the Independent Investigations Office of B.C.

When the woman declined to leave, she was placed under arrest and sustained a serious but not life-threatening injury while being taken into custody. She was taken to a local hospital for treatment, according to the investigations office.

The RCMP said the woman allegedly assaulted a police officer and resisted attempts to place her in handcuffs.

The Independent Investigations Office is asking any person with information of the incident to please contact the witness line toll-free at 1-855-446-8477 or via the contact form through the office's website.

The RCMP is not commenting further on the matter.
