RCMP warn public after attempted sexual assault of child at Kelowna bus stop

Kelowna RCMP have issued a warning after an attempted sexual assault of a child waiting at a bus stop earlier this week.

At approximately 8:15 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 24, a child was approached by a man while they were waiting for a bus at a BC Transit bus stop in the area of Glenmore Drive North and Summit Drive, according to an RCMP media released today, Oct. 27.

The man sat down next to the child and engaged in a brief conversation before allegedly attempting to assault the youth. The child fled the area and was followed for a brief distance by the suspect.

RCMP don't say how old the child is or what the nature of the attempted sexual assault was.

Police describe the suspect as male in his late 40s to early 50s of South Asian descent, 5'11" to 6' tall with an athletic build, a two to three-inch black beard and a moustache, and a tattoo on his upper right arm. He was wearing a grey T-shirt with black jeans, a leather jacket and Air Jordans.

“Given the serious nature of this incident police are alerting the public and seeking information to aid with their investigation,” Kelowna RCMP spokesperson Const. Mike Della-Paolera said in the release.

Anyone who witnessed the event or has dash camera recording from this time and area, is asked to contact the Kelowna RCMP at 250-762-3300 and reference file number 2023-63620. If you wish to remain anonymous, contact Central Okanagan Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 or leave a tip online at www.crimestoppers.net.
