RCMP are now treating the death of a Malakwa woman found in the early hours on New Year's Day as a hit-and-run homicide case.

According to a Sicamous RCMP media release, the woman was found at approximately 2:30 a.m., Jan. 1, on a private roadway within the Cedars RV and Resort on Luoma Road in Sicamous suffering from significant injuries. She later died in hospital.

"The investigation has led investigators to believe that the woman was struck by a motor vehicle," Sicamous RCMP Sgt. Murray McNeil said in the release. "This is now considered a fatal hit-and-run and we are once again asking the public for information regarding this incident."

RCMP originally reported the victim was 65-years-old, but have since positively identified her as a 64-year-old woman.

Sicamous RCMP is appealing to the public for information and anyone who may have witnessed the incident and has not spoken to police to call the Sicamous RCMP at 250-836-2878 or remain anonymous and call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
