RCMP track phone and footprints to find alleged thief

RCMP

KELOWNA - Police followed fresh footprints in the snow to find an alleged thief in the act of stealing an off-road vehicle from a Rutland garage Sunday afternoon.

RCMP received a report of a break and enter in the 900 block of Old Vernon Road at 2:38 p.m. Jan. 18, 2015, according to a media release. When officers arrived, they found a side-door at the residence was forced open. Several items including a cell phone were missing. The owner tracked the phone using a location application and investigators were on their way to the 700 block of Cornish Road.

There they saw the footprints in the snow and followed them to the garage. Police say the 35-year-old Kelowna man was inside, attempting to steal an off-road motorcycle. He was arrested without incident and the property was recovered.

Gary Kenneth Fox was held for court the following day and charged with two counts of break and enter. He remains in custody and is scheduled to appear in Kelowna court Jan. 27.
