RCMP shutdown 3D gun printing operation in Chase

RCMP took down an operation in Chase last week that was using a 3D printer to make guns.

Officers raided a home on 3 Avenue in Chase, April 22, seizing guns, ammunition, body armour, explosives and the 3D printer along with other accessories needed to make firearms, according to an RCMP media release issued today, April 29.

Officers, including members of the Explosive Disposal Unit and Southeast District Emergency Response Team, were on the scene all day and advised locals that the chemicals used in the search could cause mild irritation and had a distinct odour, but weren’t harmful.

No one was injured during the raid.

RCMP said the investigation is ongoing and charge recommendations are expected, but the release did not say if anyone was arrested or if there are suspects in custody.

“Over the past few months, our Targeted Enforcement Unit has undertaken a comprehensive, intelligence-led investigation aimed at severing one of the supply chains of illicit firearms in our community,” Supt. Jeff Pelley, the Kamloops RCMP’s officer in charge, said in the release. “This project involved a multi-phased enforcement and collaborative approach to impact violence involving firearms, which have been instrumental in fueling the local drug trade conflict over the past year.”
