The RCMP is trying to locate the owner of a collection of vintage coins which were found by police in the Shuswap.
The coins are believed to have stolen and were found along with other stolen goods following a traffic stop on Highway 1 in Tappen in February.
According to a B.C. Southeast District RCMP media release, police conducted a "high risk" traffic stop of a black Pontiac G5 on the Trans-Canada Highway, Feb. 9, after it had been reported stolen in the North Okanagan.
"A search of the suspect vehicle yielded additional stolen plates, a small quantity of suspected methamphetamine, drug paraphernalia, a stolen identification card and birth certificate and stolen cheques. Also seized were nearly two dozen vintage coins, which investigators believe to be stolen property as well," Southeast District RCMP Corp. Jesse O’Donaghey said in a media release.
"After exhausting all efforts to track down the rightful owner of what seems to be a vintage coin collection, police are now turning to the media and the public to track down the collector."
The driver of the vehicle, a 39-year-old Enderby woman whose licence had been suspended, and her passenger, a 48-year-old man also from Enderby were taken into custody following the traffic stop.
The woman now faces potential charges, and her passenger was released without charge.
The RCMP would like to hear from the owner of the coins and they should call Cpl. Jean-Rene Michaud at 250-828-3111. The RCMP says the rightful owner must be able to provide proof of ownership.
